Check the Chip Day

Monday, August 15th is National Check the Chip Day. This event is meant to bring awareness to pet owners regarding the importance of microchipping as a permanent form of identification for your cats and dogs.

Over 10 million pets are lost each year and 1 in 3 pets will be lost at least once in their lifetimes. Unfortunately, only 1 in 10 pets is ever found and reunited with their owner. If your pet is microchipped, however, those odds of being found increase dramatically (up to 52%!).

If your pet is not microchipped call us right away to schedule an appointment. It is a quick and simple procedure and can be performed as an outpatient appointment in less than 20 minutes. We can also place a microhip during any surgery while your pet is asleep.

If your pet is already microchipped please be sure to have him or her scanned at least once a year, ideally at their annual exam, to make sure the chip is still reading properly and in the same location. It is not unusual for chips to migrate from the pet's scruff to their side or towards their legs.

In addition, be sure to keep AAHA's free microchip database handy in the event you find a lost pet.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding microchipping your cat or dog do not hesitate to call us at (513)553-9954.
